Social media went viral with the trending hashtag #KathiThaazhehIdada (Drop the Knife) in the backdrop of the series of Kannur political revenge killings that has rocked Kerala, especially since the LDF government assumed power. The latest in the seemingly unending chain of murders was that of Remith -a BJP worker- who was hacked to death on Wednesday by suspected CPI(M) workers in retaliation for the killing of a party Branch Secretary on Monday.  Read: BJP worker killed in revenge murder at Pinarayi in Kannur  The macabre political violence that has always been part of the Kannur political scenario has now drawn the ire of the twitterati who came up with the said hashtag. ‘Kathi thaazheh Idada…achannaah parayunneh’ (Drop the knife…it’s your father telling you) is a cult dialogue made famous by actor Thilakan in the yesteryear Malayalam blockbuster ‘Kireedom’, where he tries to dissuade his son enacted by superstar Mohanlal from committing a murder. Twitter was awash with comments -ranging from the ironical to the comical- asking the political parties, namely CPI (M) and the BJP, to desist from resorting to killings to sort out their political differences. Many tweets advised members of both CPI (M) and BJP to drop the weapon as eventually only their families cared for them and not the leaders they were ready to die for. This tweet reads: "Killings, revenge killings and more killings. Has this turned into an art form in Kerala?" ലാഭം നേതാക്കൾക്ക്, നഷ്ടം അണികൾക്ക് !#കത്തിതാഴെഇടടാ — GEORGE KC (@george_kc) October 12, 2016 Oommen Chandy: "Guess they have set things right."
